CODED CULTURES is an initiative of the group 5uper.net (Incorporated Society to Promote, Interlink and Research the Intersections of Media, Arts, Technology and Society). Coded Cultures was first presented in 2004 at the “MuseumsQuartier Wien” with the title “Decoding Digital Culture”. The group 5uper.net represents an interdisciplinary, international forum, which is actively exploring a discussion in the fields of Media Arts, Digital Arts, Music, Technology and New Media. Since 2003 the group has presented exhibitions, workshops and symposiums which are related to the fields of media art and the intersection between art and technology.

The executive team of CODED CULTURES, represented by Georg Russegger, Matthias Tarasiewicz and Michal Wlokowski, is responsible for the contents and organization of the festival.
