CODED CULTURES is an initiative of the group 5uper.net (Incorporated Society to Promote, Interlink and Research the Intersections of Media, Arts, Technology and Society). Coded Cultures was first presented in 2004 at the “MuseumsQuartier Wien” with the title “Decoding Digital Culture”. The group 5uper.net represents an interdisciplinary, international forum, which is actively exploring a discussion in the fields of Media Arts, Digital Arts, Music, Technology and New Media. Since 2003 the group has presented exhibitions, workshops and symposiums which are related to the fields of media art and the intersection between art and technology.

The executive team of CODED CULTURES, represented by Georg Russegger, Matthias Tarasiewicz and Michal Wlokowski, is responsible for the contents and organization of the festival.

Michal Wlodkowski

Michal Wlodkowski is one of the founding members of the collective 5uper.net, as well as one of the coordinators of Coded Cultures - City as Interface. He works as freelance software developer and researcher in the area of experimental media production. In recent years he developed, curated and produced numerous exhibitions, presentations and events at the intersections of media, arts, design and technology.

Georg Russegger

Georg Russegger is the Scientific Manager of the research and development project Ludic Interfaces at the Interface Culture Lab, University of Art and Design Linz. Together with the association 5uper.net he is coordinator of the CODED CULTURES festival in Vienna. Since 1999 he has been active in artistic and scientific fields that investigate new artistic practices, media-integrated knowledge-cultures and their impact on project design as well as individual self-empowerment.

Matthias Tarasiewicz
Matthias Tarasiewicz (aka parasew) works with new media art since the last millenium (when they were actually new). He has been one of the founders of 5uper.net and co-initiator of the initiative Coded Cultures in 2004. He can be described as curator, project developer, technology theorist and digital bricoleur. Deeply involved in coding and decoding (both literally and theoretically) he researches in the fields of artistic technologies, experimental documentation and currently works on his PHD on the University of Applied Arts.
