Coded Cultures: City as Interface is a dislocated Festival. Exhibtions take place at several locations.
The exhibition module of the festival operates at various different layers. The first layer is developed together with galleries, off-spaces and artist-run-spaces in the second district of Vienna. For several years this area has been the settlement area of artistic enterprises. Another layer of the exhibition are urban interventions in the public space around »Donaukanal« (Danube Canal).

There, organizations and project have been asked to host mobile and flexible artistic projects around this area. Also we have involved long term locations like Badeschiff, Adria or Urania as hosts of art projects, presentations and workshops. The results will be presented on two focus-days at the beginning of the festival. In cooperation with the MuseumsQuartier Vienna, two Artists-in-Residence selected by Media Lab Prado and transmediale will be hosted and presented during CODED CULTURES 2011. The quartier21, located at MuseumsQuartier Vienna, will also be part of the exhibition module with a dedicated focus-day on european media arts festivals as well as local positions of new media arts.

Involving different organizations and initiatives in the planning, production and implementation of the festival exhibitions is challenging. It opens up the production routines, questions the conceptions and develops a certain flexibility within the diverse/utter needs and grown structures of every venue. It presents an experiment with a view to alter the festival as an artistic process of creation.
Encore (Location: lust gallery)
Art, music and aggression can be the same thing. After many generations of youth who were obsessed with music, the boundaries between art and music are dissolved. Many artists create works that transform their ultra ego into a rock star. However, the artists can also be a music addict by exploring their own fetish for Vinyl records and other collectables. The essence of the encore is ones need for more.

Underground City 21 Vienna
Underground City 21 Vienna (2009 – 2011) was developed to record snapshots, utopias and potentials in real and imaginary urban networks and to manifest their structures of communication and activities in installative and performative sculptures. The idea of public space, in all its sociocultural and political dimensions, as well as the imaginative borderlines between upper and under ground was discussed as part of a process of discourse within the fields of art.
